Samsung And LG Formed More Than Half of Global TV Market Share In First Quarter 

LG Electronics sold a total of 7,279,000 units, including OLED and LCD, in the global market

South Korean companies Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics formed 52.1 per cent of the global TV market in the first quarter of 2021.

As per a survey conducted by research firm Omdia, LG Electronics exceeded more than twice the shipments of OLED TV this quarter, compared to the same period last year, thus reigning at the forefront of the premium TV market. Witnessing such high sales, LG Electronics’ global TV market share based on the amount in the first quarter recorded at 19.2 per cent, an all-time high. 

LG’S OLED TV sales stood at 79,200 units in this year’s first quarter, rising by 116 per cent compared to the same period last year. While the same numbers were seen in the fourth quarter of 2020, when TV sales witnessed its highest peak season, this is the highest sales record of the first quarter.

Samsung Electronics, which has maintained the No. 1 position in TV sales for 15 consecutive years until last year, also ranked first with a 32.9 per cent market share in the first quarter due to strong sales of premium QLED and new Neo QLED TVs. Samsung Electronics’ market share is also the highest in the first quarter.

Formerly leading the TV market sales for 15 years straight, Samsung Electronics’ leading streak was broken last year, although the world’s leading electronics company still managed to secure a position at the top alongside LG Electronics. 

Samsung Electronics, however, managed to garner the highest market share in the first quarter.  

Samsung Electronics recorded a 32.9 per cent market share in the first quarter, thanks to the strong demand of its premium QLED and new Neo QLED TVs, which saw 10 million shipments in this period. Samsung Electronics sold a total of 11,615,000 units in the first quarter, an increase of 11.1 per cent from the previous year in terms of quantity.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter, pent up demand continued from the second half of last year, and a total of 51,225,000 units were sold in the global TV market.
