Apple To Build 75 Mn 5G iPhones, Demand To Touch 80Mn In 2020

According to a report by the Economic Times, tech giant Apple has asked suppliers to build at least 75 million 5G iPhones for later this year, along with new watch models, a new iPad Air and a smaller HomePod.

As mentioned in the report, the company has claimed to be expecting shipments of these next-generation iPhones to reach as high as 80 million units in 2020. Apple is also looking forward to launch a new iPad Air with an edge-to-edge iPad Pro-like screen, two new Apple Watch versions and its first over-ear headphones outside the Beats brand. 

Ramping up of production 

Apple and its manufacturing partners have always ramped up production ahead of the launch of new iPhones each fall. It was also reported that earlier in summer, suppliers were preparing to make components for as many as 75 million handsets. The target in 2018, so the present year’s goal of 75 million to 80 million units is a bullish sign.

Key iPhone assemble partner Hon hai Precision Industry Co., which is also known as Foxconn has put up several notices on weChat over the past month recruiting workers for its main iPhone campus in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou.

High demand for iPhones 

Despite the global pandemic, Apple has been seeing a strong demand for iPhones, iPads and Mac computers from people working and studying remotely. Apple shares have climbed 76% this year making is the first U.S company to surpass $2 trillion in market value.

The four new phones would be split into two basic and two high-end models for the first time, and all will feature OLED displays with improved colour and clarity. The twi regular ipHones would come in a new 5.4-inch size and a 6.1-inch option, while the Pro devices would be offering a choice of a 6.1-inch or an enlarged 6.7-inch display. 

Updated designs 

As claimed by the company, all the new smartphone would have updated designs with squared edges similar to iPad Pro, and the high end phones would continue to use stainless steel edges versus aluminium sides on the cheaper variants. 

The company is planning to launch a dark blue colour options in the pro models to replace the Midnight Green of 2019’s iPhone 11 pro line.
