An Air India flight will take off for China today to airlift essential components required by the companies in India. A message to firms awaiting components supply from China was sent last night.
“I received a Whatsapp text from the authorities on the night of 29 March 2020 stating that an Air India airplane will be leaving for Shanghai tomorrow to airlift essential components,” stated an individual on condition of anonymity.
Dealers from other countries
The individual told EFY Group that apart from components sourced from China, several business houses based in China also deal in components manufactured by companies based out of the country. He said the components that he requires are manufactured by some other country but traded by dealers based in China.
Several reports published by the media had earlier pointed out that the government of India was planning to airlift components from China. It is to be noted here that several smartphone and consumer electronics brands have already halted manufacturing operations in India citing the Coronavirus outbreak.
India needs components for ventilators and other essential devices
Several reports by media have pointed out towards the increased need of ventilators in India. It is to be noted here that the country has registered 1000th Coronavirus case. A recent report by CNBC had pointed out that India needs at least 2.1 ventilators per 10,000 people to effectively combat Coronavirus crisis.
The government has asked several Indian companies to manufacture ventilators on a priority. However, some of the components required to manufacture ventilators are sourced from other countries. Not sure but it is a big possibility that this Air India flight will be airlifting these components along with the ones listed under the essentials list by the central government.
China, in 2019, as per Worlds to Exports, exported $102,187,884,000 worth value of integrated circuits and microassemblies. The value of TV receivers, monitors and projectors exported by China in the same year stood at $31,214,343,000 while the country exported solar power diodes and semi-conductors worth $34,599,090,000 in 2019.
Phone system devices including smartphones exported by China in 2019 accounted for trade worth $224,069,819,000 in China. These were also among the highest things exported by China last year. Similarly computers and optical readers accounted for $148,463,426,000 wort value.
