Global Semiconductor Sales Fell Down By 2.2 Per Cent From December 2019 To January 2020: SIA

  • On January 2019, the global sales of semiconductors stood at $35.5 billion while it stood at $35.4 billion for January 2020
  • The market faces concerns from global trade unrest and concerns about worldwide spread of the coronavirus

The worldwide sales of semiconductors stood at $35.4 billion for the month of January 2020, a decrease of 0.3 per cent from the January 2019 total of $35.5 billion as per the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). It is also 2.2 per cent less than the December 2019 total of $36.2 billion.

John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO said, “The global semiconductor market got off to a solid start in 2020, with the industry nearly posting positive year-to-year sales growth for the first time in more than a year. Still, the global market faces significant macroeconomic headwinds, including global trade unrest and ongoing concerns about worldwide spread of the coronavirus, which could limit continued market recovery.”

Year-to-year sales increased regionally

As per SIA, regionally year-to-year sales increased slightly in China (5.2 per cent) and the Americas (0.8 per cent). It fell in Asia Pacific/All other (-4.1 per cent), Japan (-5.0 per cent), and Europe (-5.6 per cent). SIA also stated that as compared to last month, sales increased in Europe (1.2 per cent), but fell down in Asia Pacific/All other (-0.7 per cent), Japan (-1.9 per cent), the Americas (-2.1 per cent), and China (-4.3 per cent).
