According to a report by Firstpost, sources said that Noida-based Pace Electric Vehicles and Kalinga Ventures are among the EV makers which will help e-commerce giant Amazon’s delivery system. The company aims to be carbon neutral by 2040.
The sources also added that Amazon’s decision to buy vehicles from small manufacturers will help the brands to get bigger. It will also improve the quality of electric vehicles and have a presence all over the country.
While visiting India recently, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos tweeted, “Hey, India. We’re rolling out our new fleet of electric delivery rickshaws. Fully electric. Zero carbon. #ClimatePledge.”
Buy 500 vehicles from Kalinga and Pace
The report also said that Amazon India’s electric delivery rickshaws will be delivered by Noida-based Kalinga and Pace. In the first phase, Amazon will buy 500 vehicles from Kalinga and Pace. The deal will take place at an estimated valuation of Rs 12.5-15 crore as per sources.
Priced between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh
The two companies are present in north India. They have distribution networks in Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The report added that there are 1.5 million e-rickshaws in India but the ones that Amazon intends to procure are different. They will have better quality, look like auto-rickshaws with a covered goods carrier. They will be powered by lithium-ion batteries said the report. They will be priced between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.
The report also said that Amazon is also in talks with other electric three-wheeler makers like Mahindra Electric and Ola Electric. Amazon will build a fleet of 10,000 electric vehicles to deliver goods in NCR, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
