DMRC Selects Techno Sat Comm Consortium to Setup WiFi in Metro Rails

Techno Sat Comm Consortium managed by Maxima Digital has tied up with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to offer free high-speed Wi-Fi services on Metro Trains for the first time in India. The service covers all stations and trains that ply on the Airport Express Line that connects New Delhi Railway Station to the T3 Terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

“The Wi-Fi project of the Delhi Metro is built and operated by the Consortium managed by Maxima Digital Pvt. Ltd. Maxima Digital partnered with Russian technology company MaximaTelecom. MaximaTelecom is the creator and operator of Europe’s largest public transportation Wi-Fi network that includes Moscow and St. Petersburg Metros with over
11 million daily riders,” read Techno Sat Comm Consortium’s official statement.

Installed 24 Km Fiber with 44 base stations

Maxima Digital managed Techno Sat Comm Consortium informed that it has laid down a 24 Km fiber line and installed 44 base stations to make this WiFi network function. “All trains on this route will have radios to connect to designated networks and each compartment will have a wireless network access point for passengers to sign on to. After this launch, we will be looking at covering the entire growing DMRC Network with High-Speed Wi-Fi Services,” noted Farhad Rustamov, Maxima Digital.

After the launch, India will be the first country in South Asian region and among just a few countries worldwide to provide free Wi-Fi connectivity to passengers traveling in underground trains.

“To provide streamlined Wi-Fi experience to consumers traveling on the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro, we have laid down 24 Km Fiber with 44 base stations and other active equipment to ensure that at no point in time, internet connectivity is lost,” added Farhad Rustamov.

“Passengers just need to log on to the Wi-Fi network Metrowifi_free and enjoy all trip long internet applications like YouTube, Facebook, Google Search, Whatsapp, video and audio internet calls. According to the law, during the first connection, any user must go through a fast identification process using a phone number,” read the official announcement.
