According to a report by Hindu BusinessLine, KT Rama Rao, Telangana industries minister said that the aerospace and defence ecosystem in Telangana has witnessed unprecedented growth in the past five years. He added that a major factor for this growth has been the US original equipment manufacturer (OEMs).
As per the report, KT Rama Rao added that due to the potential for growth in the sector, the state government is in the the process of creating two more aerospace parks. He added that in a short period of time, the state has attracted large investments from US OEMs like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, GE Aviation, Pratt and Whitney, Honeywell and Collins Aerospace.
Engineering and R&D centres in Hyderabad
Rao further stated that the state is leading OEMs sourcing critical components and subsystems from Hyderabad based local industries. He added that global aviation companies have established their technology development, engineering and R&D centres in Hyderabad.
As per the report, Rao also highlighted the presence of four dedicated aerospace parks in Hyderabad. He also talked about 50 general-engineering parks with quality infrastructure for precision industry present in Hyderabad.
Tata Lockeed Martin plans to double its capacity in Hyderabad
The report said that Rao said that the defence programmes demonstrated by Lockheed Martin attracted other US OEMs like Boeing to set up their factories in Hyderabad. He added that Aero structures for Boeing Apache Attack helicopters and Chinook Helicopters are built and exported from Hyderabad.
Rao further went on to comment that Tata Lockeed Martin is looking at doubling its capacity and expanding further in Hyderabad. The entire manufacturing is export-oriented and it is not linked to any offset or supply to India’s armed forces. As per the report, he also said that when GE started the GE Aero engine facility in Hyderabad, it could find highly skilled talent locally. The production started in record time and presently it is running ahead of schedule.
