According to a report by Reuters, Australia- listed battery material developer Novonix Ltd has entered into a deal with South Korea’s Samsung SDI to supply the company with synthetic graphite anode material for lithium-ion batteries. As per the report, Novonix said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange that it will supply at least 500 tonnes of the battery material for electric vehicle batteries in the first phase from October 2020.
Novonix is also building a manufacturing plant in Tennessee. The report said that a spokesman of Samsung SDI said that the deal is a part of the company’s efforts to secure stable supplies of raw materials.
Artificial graphite in battery anodes to reach 320,000 tonnes by 2025
According to a report by consultancy Avicenne Energy, artificial graphite took up more than half of market demand. The report also said that artificial graphite in battery anodes is expected to nearly double by 2025, to 320,000 tonnes from 165,000 tonnes in 2020.
