Alps Alpine Co., Ltd. has entered a software license agreement with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, to develop and deliver communication modules for next-generation vehicles featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon™ Automotive 5G Platforms.
Expected deliverables
With Qualcomm Technologies’ wireless technologies for next-generation connected vehicles, this latest software license agreement allows Alps Alpine to channel its resources into 5G technology. It includes research and development, strengthening and accelerating its efforts to commercialize modules for vehicle communication. It also includes the development and mass production of integrated communication units for the automotive segment, which is an area of focus for the company.
The agreement will also aid in spurring Alps Alpine’s development of new products resulting from synergies generated by business integration as the company advances toward its “ITC101”* target.
As social implementation of 5G gains momentum, Alps Alpine is working to develop and commercialize a variety of 5G-capable technologies, which leverage 5G’s ultra-fast speeds, large capacity, low latency, mass connectivity and high reliability. Especially within CASE domains (connected cars, autonomous driving, sharing and services, and electric vehicles), Alps Alpine views the standard as essential for viewing 4K or other large video content and the use of online services as well as remote autonomous driving keeping traffic infrastructure safety toward Level 4 era.
