Niti Aayog believes it is not possible to become a manufacturing nation without adopting modern technologies like AI or ML.
The government is now working on policies to develop electronic components manufacturing base in the country and encourage exports, secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and IT Ajay Prakash Sawhney said to the media at a recent industry meet.
Sawhney disclosed that from the near assembly, India is currently moving in a direction to bring sub-assemblies and component manufacturing in India. The MeiTY secretary said that for the past five years he has witnessed a resurgence of manufacturing in India, starting with assembling of mobile phones, reported PTI.
With an explosion in electronics manufacturing, the government is increasingly trying to bring supply chain in the country, the secretary said. He further stated that the new technologies are of utmost importance for Digital India and delivery of e-governance services.
Modern technologies to lead the way
On this occasion, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said it is not possible to become a manufacturing nation without adopting modern technologies like artificial intelligence or without adopting machine learning.
This message comes from Kant at a time when government’s premier think tank Niti Aayog and the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) are debating over the creation of an artificial intelligence mission.
Various analysts and academia stalwarts are of the opinion that the Indian industry should take the lead to invest in AI in order to bring about a holistic change in the country’s electronics ecosystem.
