State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won three major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) orders for solar PV power plants totaling to 135 MW, in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Cumulatively valued at Rs 520 crore, the orders have been secured from Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd (MAHAGENCO), Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) and Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd (GNFC).

The order received from MAHAGENCO envisages setting up a 50 MW SPV plant at Kaudgaon, in District Osmanabad of Maharashtra. Notably, BHEL is also associated with Maharashtra’s renewable energy ventures with its SPV modules being installed in the solarisation of agricultural feeders.

The order from GNFC for a 10 MW SPV plant has reinforced BHEL’s contribution of 205 MW of green energy in Gujarat, out of which 130 MW is in Gujarat’s Charanka solar park.

BHEL offers EPC solutions for both off-grid and grid-interactive solar PV plants at various locations in India including the Lakshadweep islands. Currently, it has a portfolio of more than 850 MW of solar PV plants, of which nearly 500 MW has already been commissioned.

Earlier this year, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state-owned natural gas provider GAIL (India) for cooperation in the development of solar-based power projects.

Under the deal, GAIL shall be the project developer and BHEL shall act as an EPC and project management contractor. GAIL and BHEL will jointly undertake commercial solar power projects through participation in tariff/viability gap funding (VGF) based competitive bidding process.
