The station shall have high-capacity chargers that can charge electric four-wheelers to full capacity in about one and a half hours.
Gurugram will soon have its first electric vehicle charging station on National Highway-48, adjacent to the Rajiv Chowk intersection.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the Deputy Commissioner’s office has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday with a private firm for this purpose.
This will be the first government-sanctioned electric vehicle charging station in the city. It will be established at a cost of Rs 1.3 million and is scheduled to come up within a few months.
The setting up cost of the facility will be met out of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) budget, according to Gaurav Singh, a public relations officer in the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Singh added that the company shall also bear the recurring costs of running the facility. The MoU has been signed for a period of five years.
New station to be equipped with high-capacity chargers
Singh informed that high-capacity chargers shall be fitted at the station. They can charge electric four-wheelers to full capacity in about one and a half hours. The facility can accommodate three electric vehicles at a time for recharging their batteries.
Moreover, electric vehicle owners can book their time slots to avoid queuing up. They can also use a Wi-Fi lounge while they wait.
However, the pricing for using the station is not clear as yet, and there are no plans as of now to open these stations at other locations.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) had envisioned a similar plan last year, but it did not take off.
