The Himachal government has offered a subsidy of Rs. 4,000 per kWp along with 70 per cent subsidy on rooftop solar projects
The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (HPREC) has issued a notification allowing consumers to install rooftop solar projects of different capacities. It has also approved around 150 consent letters to applicants wishing to develop the solar projects at their premises.
Solar capacity
The maximum capacity to install a solar photovoltaic project for a 5 kW or less is kept at 100 per cent. For a sanctioned load between 5-10 kW is 70 per cent of the sanctioned connected load or 5kW or whichever is higher. Consumers can install a 50 per cent or 7 kW capacity or whichever is higher for the sanctioned load above 10 kW.
Consent letters
Anil Sharma, Power Minister, Himachal Pradesh, had issued the consent letters, giving a nod to the installation of rooftop solar projects. The state government is taking the implementation of the grid-connected rooftop solar program very seriously, Himurja, Himachal’s nodal agency said in an official statement. It further stated that the aim was to add most of the buildings under the program by providing subsidies on rooftop solar projects.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has offered a subsidy of Rs. 4,000 per kW and an additional 70 per cent subsidy on the solar projects
“There is a demand for rooftop solar from consumers, they are looking to reduce their power costs. Utilising the subsidy provided by the central as well as state governments and capitalising on a net metering connection, rooftop solar has become very economical in the state”, K. L. Thakur, Director, Himurja was quoted by Mercom.
