Samsung Working on Smart TVs That Won’t Require A Remote

Samsung had started working on brain control TV feature about three months ago. The feature might give it a upper hand in widening its customer base all over the world

Famous for its electronic and white goods all over the world, South Korean technology firm Samsung has started working on a new smart TV feature that will allow users to control TVs using their brains.

The feature will require a consumer to wear a headset and look towards an eye tracker in order to control the TV. The headset will come installed with 64 sensors.

Samsung ‘Project Pontis’

Christened ‘Project Pontis’, Samsung’s Switzerland team had already started working on it about three months ago. The South Korea based electronics and white goods manufacturer has partnered with Switzerland based Center of Neuroprosthetics of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in order to develop the feature.

It is believed that Samsung’s future TV feature will be able to read brainwaves, track eye movements and use machine learning to change channels and adjust volume. The Samsung team is also said to be working on a feature that will rely entirely on brainwaves and would be beneficial for those who cannot use the eye-tracker.

Samsung has reportedly given a demonstration of the second prototype of this TV feature at its developer conference held last week in San Francisco. The company had also given a demo of its first ever folding smartphone at the same conference and announced that it was working on different display styles with notches.

A popular daily reported that the latest tech feature from Samsung is only meant for people with Physical disabilities. However, there is no official statement on the same. With the increasing demand of smart features in electronics, it would not be wrong to say that Samsung will find it difficult to keep the brain control TV feature away from general audience in the long run.

Moreover, the feature might give Samsung a upper hand in widening its customer base all over the world.
