Ericsson Commences Exporting Telecom Gear Manufactured at India Facility

Developed with an initial investment of around Rs 146 crores, the Ericsson manufacturing facility located in Pune, Maharashtra was set up in 2016

Sweden based telecom gear maker Ericsson announced that it has commenced the export of 5G-ready telecom equipment manufactured at its facility in Pune, Maharashtra, to Southeast Asian markets. The development, manufacturing and export of telecom equipment falls in line with the “Make in India” initiative.

Nunzio Mirtillo, head of Ericsson South East Asia, Oceania and India, in a statement, said, “Ericsson has been in India for well over 100 years and we were the first company to start manufacturing telecom equipment in the country in 1994. Our state-of-the-art facility will continue to cater to the domestic market even as we commence exports to other markets in Southeast Asia.”

Telecom equipment exported

The list of telecom equipment that Ericsson exported to the markets in Southeast Asia include Ericsson’s microwave equipment for 2G, 3G and 4G technologies and 5G-ready radio base stations. These have been delivered successfully to markets in Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.

Ericsson is actively looking to add more Southeast Asian countries and markets where it can export products from the it’s Radio System portfolio.

Developed with an initial investment of around Rs 146 crores, the Ericsson manufacturing facility located in Pune, Maharashtra was set up in 2016. The facility initially catered to the Indian market before exporting telecom gear to the Southeast Asian countries.

The company will ramp up the manufacturing capacity once the export volumes pick up.

India becoming the next manufacturing hotspot

With more and more companies deciding to set up manufacturing plants in India, the country is steadily becoming the next manufacturing hub of the world. Samsung had recently announced the biggest smartphone manufacturing plant in Noida, India. Oppo is also working on a mammoth size manufacturing facility in the same city.
