Wistron plans to invest Rs 1,150 Crore in Karnataka for manufacturing components in the Phase II and III.
The Hindu has reported that contract manufacturer of Apple Iphones, Wistron, is planning to invest Rs 1,150 crore in Karnataka during the first phase of operations, informed Gaurav Gupta Principal Secretary, Information Technology, Bio-Technology and Science and Technology to the State government. The company will manufacture components in the Phase II and III.
According to the report, Apple is not directly investing in the manufacturing and it has given the contract to Wistron. Apple is seeking tax concessions and incentives from the State Government. But Union Government does not want to reduce the duties as it will impact the domestic products negatively.
Gupta said to The Hindu that they are engaged with them for the last two years and Wistron has already started its operations in a restricted manner in Bangaluru and had upgraded to a new facility.
The state government has also approved many other investment proposals like one from Boeing Co. to make aerospace components and set up a maintenance and repair facility at the aerospace SEZ near the Devanahalli airport.
