The Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) aims to distribute 10 lakh LED bulbs in Ghaziabad zone, which comprises the districts of Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and Hapur, this month.
Priced at Rs 180-200 in the market, the discom will offer the bulb for Rs 70. Four lakh bulbs each will be distributed in Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr, and two lakh in Hapur.
The aim of the initiative is to increase consumer base of the Nigam, primarily in rural areas, where aggregate technical and commercial losses are between 15 percent and 30 percent. For this, 69 counters have been set up across the zone.
AK Chaudhary, PVVNL chief engineer, Ghaziabad zone, said, “The LED distribution is being under the UJALA scheme of the Central government. The bulbs will be provided by Energy Efficiency Service Limited, a joint venture of public sector power undertakings. Besides 69 counters, LED bulb distribution will also be done through special camps held on Thursdays and Saturdays for giving new connections and collecting revenues. In villages, we will take help of gram pradhans for spreading awareness.”
