The state owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has sold around 12,53,026 Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs and have succeeded to save 4,55,591 LED units amounting to Rs 1.8 million in the last 15 months.
EESL is a joint venture company that started in 2009. The company was later taken up the Unnat Jeevan by Affordable Lighting for All (UJALA) scheme to distribute LED bulbs across the district.
Under the UJALA scheme, the company started distributing bulbs in February 2016. The company has adopted two ways to distribute the bulbs one on the upfront payment and the other on the instalment basis.
According to TOI, Kolhapur area manager of EESL Abhishek Singh said that the company started the campaign on February this year. A good response from the residents helped them to sell lakhs of bulbs here. The company has been selling 7 and 9 watt bulbs.
