Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is pushing its manufacturing trail in India by setting up a second factory in the country in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri City.
With this set-up it is expected that more than 95 percent of Xiaomi’s smartphones sold in India will be manufactured in the country. The new manufacturing plant is owned and operated by partner Foxconn and is dedicated for Xiaomi smartphones only.
According to IANS, Manu Jain, Vice President and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said that Xiaomi is present in 20 markets globally but India tops in terms of volume and is also the fastest growing market for them. They are eyeing on India market and the company will continue to do it is doing and provide great after sales service and experience for their users.
The company made its first interaction with Indian market in July 2015 and within a year installed its first manufacturing plant. The production from the first plant went live in August 2015 and by March 2016, over 75 percent of its phones were being manufactured in India. The plant also generated employment for more than 5,000 people from over 100 surrounding villages.
