The central government has recently given green flag to Odisha government’s proposal of coming up with a National Investment and Manufactuing Zone (NIMZ) at Kalinga Nagar. The move is to give a major push to Prime Minister’s Make in India initiative. According to Union Oil Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, the first phase of this project will be complete by 2020.
“A total of Rs 4,241 crore will be invested in the proposed NIMZ at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district. The first phase of the project will be completed by 2020 with initial investment of Rs 3,816 crore,” Pradhan told jounalists in Bhubaneshwar.
The minister also said that this initiative is a great move by the centre and it will generate close to 1.5 million jobs in the state. “Approval to this NIMZ project ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Odisha clearly signifies the Centre’s thrust on the development of Odisha and eastern India,” Pradhan said in a statement.
NIMZ will play a key role in attracting electronics manufacturing in the state as India yearn to be one of the biggest electronics manufacturers globally. The Kalinga Nagar NIMZ would be the third Investment and Manufacturing Zone of India involving a massive area of 163 sq km.
