Tata Power Renewable Energy has announced that it has won two photovoltaic solar projects worth 50 MW each in the state of Karnataka.
“Company’s 100 per cent subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has won two solar grid connected photovoltaic projects of 50 MW capacity each in Pavagada Solar Park in the Tumkur district of Karnataka,” the company said in a statement.
The project has been awarded to the company under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). The company will sign a 25 year power purchase agreement (PPA) with National Thermal Power Corporation.
Recently it was reported that Karnataka has revised its target from 2 GW solar implentations to 6 GW by 2022. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been directing all the states to expand their solar capacity in order for the centre to meet its stipulated target of achieving 100 GW of solar energy implementations in the country by 2022.
According to Anil Sardana, CEO, Tata Power, “The two solar projects will add 100 MW of non-fossil fuel energy to our total generation capacity, thereby, significantly increasing our green footprint.”
