Hong Kong-based Transsion Holdings Conglomerate, one of the biggest brand in Asia, has announced that it will open its shops in north India in the first phase and then in the second phase target north west region. The conglomerate already has presence in more than 40 countries and it will bring six models of itel brand in India at the first phase. What is good is the lowest priced mobile is only Rs 700 as it wants to target the varried segment in the country.
Talking to the media about the India launch, Sudhir Kumar, CEO, itel India, commented, “India has emerged as a key geography for any global player. In view of the opportunities and scope, it was inevitable for us to foray into this market. We believe that the mobile ecosystem in India is ripe for disruption and that introducing our brand itel would redefine the level of quality cost-effective offerings in the country. We are confident that itel will emerge as the perfect enabler to drive the rural and semi-urban Indian consumers onto a digital platform and to provide affordable yet feature-driven mobile phones for the aspiring Indian consumers across geographies and social classes.”
The company has also said that it plans to set up manufacturing base in the country and it is evaluating destinations like Noida, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra for the same. By the end of this year, the company plans to launch Tecno, its premium brand, and Infinix, which will be for online. As India is equidistant from both China and Africa, it makes greater sense to set up manufacturing here.
