Vodafone is expecting cellular data services to play a pivotal role in India’s growth and will inevitably become a key driver of revenue in the coming two to three years. As per Vodafone’s chief operating officer, Naveen Chopra, mobile data is driving future growth and will account for a major portion of its revenue in the coming two to three years.
At the moment, data services account for 20.8 per cent of the company’s current service revenues in India and Vodafone is seeing an increase of 10 million data subscribers annually.
As per the company’s top executive, data is going to play an integral part in our growth and new technologies including fourth-generation (4G) services, which will offer superior data experience. Vodafone is also to a large extent relying on investment in high-speed 4G networks as part of its data-centric strategy for countering Bharti Airtel’s data plans and the entry of Reliance Jio Infocomm 4G.
As per Hemant Joshi, partner at Deloitte, “Driven by data explosion and rollout of data services led by 3G and 4G, along with operational prudence, the Indian telecom market is expected to be back on the growth track.”
As per Deloitte’s research, it is expected that once smartphones have attained a major threshold, that is 30 per cent, data explosion will acquire a new dimension in India.
