Delhi based Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT), which represents India’s IT hardware, training and R&D services sectors, has announced the appointment of its new president. Debjani Ghosh, vice president sales and marketing group and managing director of Intel Corporation, south Asia, is the new president of MAIT and the first ever woman president in the association’s 32-year history. The appointment was announced during MAIT’s 32nd annual general meeting for the term of 2014-15.
Ghosh has succeeded Amar Babu, chief operations officer at Lenovo, Asia Pacific and chairman, Lenovo India.
Ghosh comes with vast experience in the field of IT and technology. She has been with Intel for over 19 years, heading diverse departments and working in a variety of supervisory roles including setting up Intel’s education programme for the Asia Pacific region. Before assuming her current role at Intel, Ghosh was managing director for southeast Asia. Her leadership role is not confined to MAIT; she also chairs the IT committee at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Ghosh has risen to the top of her field because of the high level of achievements and deliverables during her professional career. Listed below are some of her outstanding professional achievements:

Ghosh has many plans for the country, which is currently witnessing growth in the field of IT and manufacturing. The latest ‘Make in India’ campaign is helping the industry immensely, but Ghosh believes that this initiative should not be driven forward only by the Indian government. The industry should also come forward and contribute towards it. She believes that to accomplish the vision of a truly connected India, the Indian IT industry will need to innovate and collaborate like never before. The government and the industry will need to work hand in hand, with clear roles and charters, to make the vision a reality.

According to Ghosh, MAIT plays a major role in serving sectors like electronics manufacturing, IT, as well as home-grown R&D and the association has a sense of responsibility towards the Digital India mission too. Going ahead, Ghosh wants to strengthen MAIT’s role as the apex IT hardware body in India.
Commenting on the appointment, Amar Babu, outgoing president of MAIT, said, “It’s great to have Debjani Ghosh as the next president of MAIT. I have worked extensively with Debjani and have the utmost respect for her experience and accomplishments. Debjani has demonstrated her ability to drive innovation and growth and deliver results, and it goes without saying that she will infuse new energy to the MAIT agenda.”
Debjani Ghosh, the new president of MAIT, commented, “It is a privilege for me to assume office as president of MAIT at this exciting time in India’s history. Digital India is not the government’s job alone and the industry must contribute towards its successful realisation. MAIT is in a unique position to drive collaboration in the areas of electronics manufacturing, home-grown R&D as well as ‘Design in India’ in order to fulfil the ‘Make in India’ dream and realise the Digital India vision. I look forward to driving key agendas for MAIT.”
Congratulating Ghosh, Anwar Shirpurwala, executive director, MAIT, said, “It is our pleasure to have Ghosh take over as president of MAIT. She has always been an asset to MAIT and with her leadership now, we are confident that MAIT will scale new heights.”
Established in 1982, MAIT has emerged as an effective, influential and dynamic organisation. The association is serving divergent sectors like scientific education and IT, and represents hardware, training, R&D and hardware design apart from other associated service segments of the Indian IT industry. MAIT often conducts events, workshops and seminars on subjects of topical interest as part of its charter to spread IT adoption across the country.
