A centrally-controlled monitoring system for LED streetlights was recently launched at BMC Bhawani Mall in Bhubaneswar. The new system is based on advanced computer programs that will regulate the lights being switched on and off. A team of engineers and technicians has been deployed to monitor the system round–the–clock.
A private company, Superwealth, has signed an agreement with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the LED project. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government to install more than 20,000 LED lights in the city, replacing old ones. The MoU will be in operation for 10 years, during which the private partner would be responsible for repair, replacement and maintenance of the LED units.
The status of the the LED lights’ functioning will be reflected on the electric panels, enabling instant repair or maintenance of a defunct lamp.
As per reports, 13,000 LED lights have been installed across the city till now. The civic body plans to cover the remaining areas in two more phases. Identification of dark stretches and poorly illuminated areas has already begun.
