March 21, 2015: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis clearly stated in the assembly that the government aims to push the use of LED lights not only in Mumbai, but also in other cities in Maharashtra.
The CM added that the government will urge municipal corporations in the state to replace conventional lights with energy efficient LED lights as they save cost and energy.
It was observed that the illumination levels of LED at Marine Drive and J J Flyover in Mumbai were quite low. In order to combat this, Fadnavis said that the number of LED bulbs would be increased there, and Marine Drive is a major project to test efficiency of LED bulbs.
“The LED installations would be done through bidding and in a transparent manner by EESL, a Government of India undertaking. Nobody will be favoured,” he said.
