March 3, 2015: The plan for energy efficiency is now being incorporated into the defence sector of the country. In a recent move it has been decided by the Home Ministry that the floodlights at the India-Pakistan international border will be replaced by LEDs.
According to a report by Economic Times, the government has initiated a pilot project to replace the conventional floodlights with LEDs over a 14Km stretch on the Punjab border.
Currently, nearly 2000Km of international border of India in J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat is floodlit. This replacement and the cost of LEDs will be retrieved through energy savings and life cycle of the LEDs.
