March 2, 2015: Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha will soon set an example as both the interior and exterior of the state government body will run on a solar lighting system instead of the electricity-powered lights. According to the latest report on this by a leading national daily, Speaker Brij Bihari Lal Butail has commented on this saying, “This is just a beginning of the solar energy project, which HIMURJA—a state energy agency, has executed. Gradually the project will be extended to cover other areas, apart from the lighting of the entire Vidhan Sabha complex. This is a first state assembly to execute an innovative project to light-up the House with solar energy.”
The Vidhan Sabha already has a reputation of being in tune with the latest technology as it has recently taken up the e-Vidhan project. It was an initiative to save trees which are cut down to make paper. The Himachal assembly is said to have saved Rs 140 millions during the past two sessions.
