January 13, 2015: In a move to develop 5000 rural projects, SunEdison and Omnigrid Micropower Company (OMC) have signed a framework agreement to represent 250MW of electricity across India in the next three to five years. While the financing expertise and project development role will be carried out by SunEdison, the technical knowhow and local and telecom knowledge lies with OMC. It is expected to be a fruitful partnership which will bring electricity to 10 million people with the help of 36KW micro power plants.
Talking about this project, President and CEO of SunEdison, Ahmad Chatila said, “There are approximately 1.5 billion people that do not have access to electricity and another 1.5 billion people that don’t have reliable, 24/7 electricity. What is most exciting about this partnership is that SunEdison is embarking on its purpose of transforming lives in a very big way.”
