January 9, 2014: As a part of the National Solar Mission, the country is planning to add upto three gigawatts of the solar power projects through competitive bidding. According to the draft, the guidelines suggest that the companies can do their bidding through the state governments at a fixed 25-year tariff, and the comments on these guidelines can be submitted to the ministry of new and renewable energy by January 12.
The draft further states that the minimum recommended project size is of 10MW and the selection will be based on the lowest quoted tariff. The power-grading unit which is utilised the most by the country may purchase the electricity produced. By 2022, the National Solar Mission is looking to start 20 gigawatts of grid-connected projects in three phases.
