Saturday, December 6, 2014: All the corridors and rooms of central government ministries and departments in Lutyens’ Delhi will soon get lit up by the LED lamps. The Prime Minister office has announced in a recent communique that the all the departments and their subordinate offices will involve only LED lights and bulbs for lighting and not CFLs or tube lights.
It explained that even though the installation price might get costlier for the department but in long run it will be proved to be more effective owing to less electricity consumption by LEDs.
According to the sources, the communique also had cited a study which proved LEDs to be more efficient than CFLs. It suggested to be 23 per cent more efficient than tube lights and 80 per cent more efficient than incandescent lamps. A government official said, “Though the price of LEDs is higher than other light sources, their lifetime cost is much lower.”
The communique backed LEDs’ installation by stating the fact that a nine -watt LED bulb gives the same amount of light output as a 12-watt CFL or a 60-watt normal bulb.
