Wednesday, December 3, 2014: A 50MW solar power plant has been added to the Maharashtra’s grid by Mahagenco. Mahagenco is the state-run power generation company which commissioned the plant on 13 July, 2014.
A top official at Mahagenco said the plant based in Shirsuphal, Baramati at Pune is the first solar plant which has been set up via public-private partnership. The official also added that the plant was completed in only 4.5 months, which is a record in itself. The project is of two phases and in the first phase the plant will generate 83 million units of power every year.
The state has already a 125MW solar power plant in Dhule and 5MW at Chandrapur. Now as the Baramati plant has also been added the total solar power production of the state has reached 180MW. It means now 1.58 per cent of the total current power generation in the state is solar power.
