Friday, September 26, 2014: The steel city of India, Jamshedpur, is holding its promises to emerge as the “Green City”, and as a part of this noble initiative, Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company (JUSCO) has taken a significant step. The organisation has set up LED street lights across the city.
Tata Steel’s wholly-owned subsidiary, JUSCO, provides municipal services under the Tata Steel’s authorised area. According to an official press note, the subsidiary has designed plans to replace the traditional lighting system, High Power Sodium Vapour (HPSV), with LED lighting solutions. So far, 400 LED lights have been installed as a part of the project implementation drive. The lighting solutions in the city have been provided by a leading multinational company, GE Lighting, who are known for their high quality with lowest possible defects.
JUSCO highlighted the benefits and claimed that the innovative technology, used by GE in the LED lights, energy consumption can be brought down by over 54 per cent in comparison to conventional lights. Records say, 20 per cent of a town’s electricity consumption comes from street lights. Thus LED street lights will save huge amount of energy and the whole nation will benefit from the same, as stated in the press release.
