In July 2014, Linear Technology Corporation introduced the LTC3769, a synchronous step-up DC/DC controller that replaces the boost diode with a high efficiency N-channel MOSFET, increasing efficiency and maximising output current capabilities. This controller produces 24 V at an output of up to 5 A from a 12 V input with up to 98 per cent efficiency, making it ideal for automotive, industrial and medical applications where a step-up DC/DC converter must have low heat dissipation in a small solution size. It operates over an input voltage range of 4.5 V to 60 V during start-up, maintains operations down to 2.3 VIN after start-up and can regulate an output as high as 60 V.
