Friday, September 05, 2014: One of the largest producers of lighting equipment and steel pipes in India, Surya Group, recently forayed into LED lighting segment. The company announced that it has plans to add 50 new products in this segment and they have invested an additional Rs 250 million for the initiative.
B Raju, managing director of Surya Roshni, a Group company, said in a statement, “The Rs 40,000-million Surya Group plans to add 50 new products by investing an additional Rs 250 million in R&D.” The R&D unit of the company has claimed that they have successfully developed mercury-free LED lamps which in enabled to save 96 per cent energy. Apart from that, these LED lamps have longer life of 25,000 hours and they can work for 15 years with a wide voltage range of 110 to 300 volts.
Surya Group leads the market of bulbs, tubes and lamps and in the current fiscal it has already gained a sales turnover of about Rs 1500 million from the LED segment. In next 3-4 years, Surya is expecting a turnover of Rs 18,000 million from its lighting segment and the company is quite positive about its prospects in both near and long-term projects. 80 per cent of the company’s products are manufactured in-house and the rest is outsourced. Surya Group’s manufacturing units are located in Gwalior and Kashipur (Uttarakhand). It has its export reach to 44 countries, including Europe, North and South America, South-East Asia.
