Friday, July 11, 2014: At the Union Budget 2014 speech, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley declared that consumer goods like TVs and personal computers are all set to get cheaper. Jaitley mentioned that basic custom duties on LCD and LED panels below 19-inches have been removed.
In general, personal computers and flat-screen TVs will be cheaper than before. He also mentioned that for those who can’t afford flat-screen LCD and LED TVs, CRT TVs too have been made cheaper.
Jaitley also increased basic custom duty on several telecom products to 10 percent in order to boost local manufacturing. It isn’t clear as of now as to whether it affects the smartphone vertical as well or just the telecom network infrastructure.
