Tuesday, April 29, 2014: Yemen and India have been in talks for joining hands on solar power initiatives for some time now. In the latest, the efforts have started bearing fruits with the two countries signing an MoU for the same. Saleh Sumai, minister of electricity, Yemen, has inked an MoU with Bharat, an India based company to build a solar power plant in Yemen.
As per the reports, the cost of the plant is $100 million, and will be provided by the Indian government to Yemen as a soft loan. The energy produced in the solar plant will amount to about 60 megawatts and will be distributed to the capital province of the Socotra archipelago and the island of Kamaran in Hodeida province.
The MoU states that the time period of completion of the station is 10 to 12 months, after it is approved by the official authorities.
