Wednesday, April 02, 2014: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has said the public sector unit (PSU) is all set to commission the commercial operations at its three new solar power plants, soon. The company will begin production in all the three plants around the same time, and they will raise the total solar capacity to more than twice than that available today.
On Monday, NTPC said that the new solar power plants will account to 45 MW of solar power, totalling to 75 MW of renewable energy production by the company.
According to a Reuters report, the biggest power producer in India, NTPC “has vowed to raise the amount of energy it generates from renewable resources as it aims to diversify away from conventional fuels including coal because of insufficient domestic supplies, which have forced it to buy costly imports.”
However, such projects only amount for a minor power capacity, since NTPC has a total production of 41,859 MW commercial power.
