EB: Why is the Indian market important for your company?

Power electronics components like diode/thyristor modules and capsule devices are widely used for the control and conversion of electric power. Due to the very high demand for electrical energy, the Indian market for power electronics is one of the fastest growing in the world. Similar to their Chinese counterparts, Indian customers too have very high expectations on the cost-benefit ratio of products. That is exactly what R&D Electronics offers. We have more than 20 years’ international experience in the field of power electronics. Based on our experience, we’ve selected the suppliers in China with respect to lower product costs, high quality and large market share. The suppliers become our partners after they pass the system audits conducted by German auditors. With our most innovative and economic sales and marketing channel—the B2B e-commerce portal www.rd-eBusiness.com—we are able to transfer the benefits to customers in India. Bridging the supply-demand gap is our mission.

EB: What is your business strategy with respect to the Indian market?

Our business goal is to offer the best possible benefits to our customers in India. We provide the most reliable standard products, which are technically advanced. With more than 400 products on our portal, Indian customers can have the widest choice. All these products are CE certified and have met European RoHS requirements. Most of them also have the UL marking. With seven price groups for each of our products, we address large as well as small Indian companies. Our quick and simple online order process, transparent pricing structure and uncomplicated after sales service are the main advantages for the customers.

EB: Which sectors do you target?

Currently, we offer three main product groups. These are: diode/thyristor modules, bridge rectifiers and diode/thyristor capsules. The target sector for these product groups is the power conversion systems domain, which can be classified according to the type of the input and output power—AC to DC (rectifier), DC to AC (inverter), DC to DC (converter) and AC to AC (converter).

The typical applications for power modules are AC/DC motor drives, rectifier devices, Softstarter, DC supplies, UPS systems and inverters, and welding devices, among others.

The typical applications for capsule devices are metal smelting, high-power conversion, AC/DC motor control, AC/DC switching, phase-controlled rectification, and active and passive inversion, among others.

EB: Do you have a presence in India through partnerships or your own offices?

R&D Electronics does not have its own offices in India at the moment. However, we eagerly look forward to cooperating with local partners. Our local partners could be distributors, systems integrators or companies that have the experience in dealing with power electronics components.

As our partner, a firm can profit from the following aspects—very competitive prices, cost benefits due to the market synergy effect, easy substitutability (second source) due to the high versatility of our product range, high reliability and durability since we offer mature products, and straightforward and simple return processing.

In addition, we invite a partner to be one of our premier customers, of which there are only a limited number. You can find more information and special offers on our website.

EB: Are there any challenges that you have faced, or foresee, in India?

Our biggest challenge is to make ourselves more popular in the Indian market as soon as possible.

EB: From the range of products and services that you deal in, what products do you feel will find more takers in India?

There are a lot of different power electronics products, like IGBT modules, driver boards, filters, sensors, etc, which can also be widely used in the electrical energy sector. As an additional service, R&D Electronics offers the feedback function on its portal for customers seeking products other than what we present. This is in accordance with our mission of ‘bridging the supply and demand gap’.
