Thursday, February 20, 2014: The fourth edition of the popular electronics extravaganza, the Electronics For You Expo 2014, has been kicked off today at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, J Satyanarayana, secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY).

Other prominent dignitaries present with him at the inaugural session included Kenji Urai, managing director, Toshiba India Private Limited; Tamaki Tsukasa, economic minister, Embassy of Japan; Subhash Goyal, president of ELCINA; Rajoo Goel, secretary general, ELCINA; and Ramesh Chopra, executive chairman, EFY Group.

In his address to the gathering, Satyanarayana talked about the growth of the semiconductor industry in India, and mentioned the recent approvals of two new semiconductor fabs. He said that semiconductors comprise 25 per cent of the components market today, and this is expected to grow to 30 per cent in the future. He expressed his happiness at the increase in the number of applications to DeitY, and noted that the pace of new developments is not slowing down. He added that he was glad that all the pieces of the policy framework were falling in place, and now, industry must play its role. He concluded his speech with a slogan about 2014 being the year of ‘Made in India’ electronics products.

Subhash Goyal, president of ELCINA, while speaking at the event, said, “Our purpose is to create a forum, and with the help of government we are trying to create a positive ecosystem. We are looking forward to a bright future for the electronics industry.” He said that with this Expo, both EFY and ELCINA are committed to providing new opportunities to the industry to realise the dream of a vibrant domestic electronics industry.

Concluding the session, Ramesh Chopra, executive chairman, EFY, thanked the dignitaries and shared his vision of making the EFY Expo the first choice for people in the industry. He also added that the EFY Expo will also reach out to other cities in the country to make it a national event, so that everyone who was not able to attend the event in person could soon do so.

The fourth edition of the EFY Expo is the largest so far, with major attractions like a live demo of 3D printers, the ELCINA Buyer-Seller Zone, the ELCINA CEO Summit: The Second Sunrise for ESDM Sector in India, sessions on ‘How to Sell to the Government & Best Practices in Public Procurement’ and the ‘A to Z about Manufacturing of LED Products in India’, ELCINA workshops on the ‘National Electronics Policy & How You Can Benefit From It’, ‘Electronics Rocks’ (Delhi edition), etc.

The Expo seeks to create a platform where the innovators, design engineers and implementation engineers can mingle with manufacturers, traders and institutional buyers, in order to create one common platform for the entire electronics industry to come together. With major government departments supporting the EFY Expo, it eventually aims to bridge the gap between the industry and the government.

Looking at the buoyant response on the first day, just as in the previous years, the show is expected to be a great success.
