Monday, February 03, 2014: Taking yet another significant move in the development of ESDM sector in the country, Department of Electronics and IT (DEITY) is now planning to rope in consultants, who can help in preparing a sound strategy for the growth of the sector in India. The Indian ESDM industry is estimated to touch $400 billion turnover by 2020.
DEITY is looking for consultants, who will be responsible for formulation and implementation of policies and guidelines related to the promotion of the Indian ESDM sector, it revealed in an advertisement.
Demand for technology products, including electronic goods, has increased significantly in India. However, the production capacity of the country is way too less as compared to the estimated demand. The estimated production of electronics goods in India is likely to be around $104 billion by the year 2020. A gap of $296 billion between the demand and production is what DEITY is looking to address, to reduce India’s dependence on import of electronics.
“ESDM promotion programme of DEITy seeks to radically change the electronics hardware manufacturing in the country by increasing value addition, encouraging technology development and Indian IP creation with a view to creating domestic manufacturing capacity of USD 400 billion in next 10 years,” the advertisement on DEITy website said.
The advertisement said that the government plans to rope in a senior consultant, two consultants and eight other professionals for the Programme Management Units (PMU). The last date for receipt of application is 21 February.
The team of consultants will look evaluate the techno-commercial aspects of project proposals received and will also be responsible for recommending financial incentives, tendering/selection for government procurement of services as well as project formulation and management.
The will provide assistance in organising government approvals, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, identifying trained manpower requirements in ESDM sector and mapping existing educational infrastructure. The team will be mandated to develop communication plans and execute brand building initiatives for supporting short and long-term objectives of the programme, reported PTI.
