Friday, January 24, 2014: As per a report by RESolve Energy Consultants, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) had received 2.17 GW of bids for 750 MW of available solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity during an auction for phase II, batch 1of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).
Auction saw 700 MW of bids for 350 MW of available capacity in the domestic content requirement (DCR) category. Meanwhile in the open category, 1.47 GW of bids were recieved for 375 MW of capacity.
India offered half of the capacity to the imported PV products. However, eliminated an exemption for thin-film PV from DCR rules.
Major participants
Azure Power is reportedly the only developer to bid for the full 200 MW allowed, with 100 MW in each category. While, Acme Solar has also supposedly bid for 200 MW but through several companies. Other top bidders were Welspun Energy Ltd. who had bid for 160 MW of capacity and IL&FS who had bid for 150 MW.
Auction witnessed participation by wide range of companies including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, independent power producers, PV maker and developer and state utility companies.
