Friday, January 17, 2014: Rajeev Kher who was a 1980 batch IAS officer has been appointed today as the Secretary in the Department of Commerce. The UP cadre officer currently holds the position of Special Secretary in the department in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
As per economictimes.indiatimes.com, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had chosen Kher to replace current Secretary S.R. Rao retiring on 31 January as per an official statement. The ACC has also extended the tenure of J. Sathyanarayana as Secretary in the Department of Electronics and Information Technology beyond 13 March to 30 April. Also, the term of V.S. Madan, DG and Mission Director of the Unique Identification Authority of India, has been stretched to one year beyond 28 April.
