Monday, December 16, 2013: India’s manufacturing sector is set to take a giant leap, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. With the government promoting the solar sector as well, many solar plants are coming up in the country. Besides these, India is also witnessing the setting up of many testing centres and design houses.
Who will benefit
The setting up of new production facilities, solar plants, testing centres and design houses will help in the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT) as well as through-hole machines, components, chemicals and consumables.

Luminous Power Technologies is going to inaugurate its inverter battery manufacturing unit at Hosur in Tamil Nadu soon. The company has invested Rs 100 million in the plant and has planned to invest another Rs 400 million over the next three years in the facility. Luminous plans to manufacture about 0.2 million inverters every year at this facility. This is the company’s eighth manufacturing unit, with six in Himachal Pradesh and one in Pune.

Vikram Solar has commissioned a 5MW solar power plant at Virudunagar, Tamil Nadu, for JVS Exports under the renewable energy certificate (REC) mechanism, on a turnkey basis. The entire power plant was constructed within a short period of 75 days. The project is expected to generate approximately 8 million units of electricity per annum, which will be sold to the state utility at an average power purchase cost price.

Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd Manufactures: PV solar cells and modules |
Tata Power Solar has successfully commissioned a 10MW solar power plant for Jindal Aluminium Ltd (JAL) in Chitradurga, Karnataka. The plant will produce over 18 million kWH (over 18 million units) of solar power annually, covering the annual energy needs of over 70,000 households. A total of 48,000 multi-crystalline modules, each with an average output of 240 Wp, have been installed on 52 acres of non-agricultural land in Kalamarahalli in Chitradurga. After the land conversion process, a solar farm was developed with 16,000 foundation pillars laid to support the structural framework of 2000 mounts.
