Monday, December 02, 2013: The only people rejoicing when the power crisis in the country worsens are inverter manufacturers and dealers. Reportedly, during the second week of November, two-hour outages were back, which now go up to 8 hours a day, making residents turn to inverters for relief.
A Dhanasekaran, proprietor of Dee Cee Power Care told TOI, “During the last four months, there was minimal activity in our showrooms but now the situation is entirely different.” The inverter sales have gone up by 50 per cent, with people opting for replacement of the inverter battery.
However, dealers are struggling to meet the requirement. The price of the inverters varies from the brand and capacity, an average customer spends anything between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000.
The boom in inverter sales has also increased the demand for electricians and technicians who install inverters. “As we are on our toes to meet requests for wiring and installation in houses, there is no time to attend other complaints,” J Shanmugham, an electrician at Singanallur told TOI.
The report also added that on an average, it costs Rs 1,400 for wiring and installing inverters including cost of the material.
