Friday, November 01, 2013: Philips India along with the Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association of India (ELCOMA) is taking an initiative to spread awareness about the benefits of LED lamps. According to reports, the company is planning to increase awareness amongst the consumers about quality LED lamps and cheap Chinese LED lamps.
“Consumer awareness is very low, and most of them think LED lamps are synonymous with cheap Chinese products. We, at Philips, want to tell them that there are LED lamps and Philips LEDs,” Sumit Joshi, head of marketing, Philips Lighting India, told the Hindu Business Line.
Further, Joshi also told HBL that quality LED lighting products have become much cheaper in the last couple of years. They will become even cheaper as the volumes pick up. Joshi noted that two years ago, the prices of LED lamps was about six to seven times that of equivalent CFL lamps. This has now dropped to about three times the price of CFLs.
In addition to spreading awareness, Philips is also looking to increase its network within the country. The company is looking to ensure that its products are available all across India. It has also roped in Bollywood start Ranbir Kapoor and Shruti Hassan in order to endorse the LED products that the company is making. A new commercial is also about to launch on the television.
