Saturday, October 26, 2013: Setting an example for other government buildings, Trichy Corporation is turning one of its buildings into a solar powered one, which was inaugurated yesterday.
The building will have a solar powered computerised tax collection centre, which is located inside the corporation premises. Reportedly, a 3 KW panels will be providing power to the entire building that has at least seven computers.
The firm responsible for installing panels on the building terrace is Aeon Renewable Energy. They had sent a proposal to implement in the corporations in the district. As part of the first phase, the project will be extended to Trichy, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli. The panel has been set up at an estimated cost of Rs 7,00,000. The 30 per cent subsidy on renewable energy installations provided by the government is helpful people to switch to the concept, reported TOI.
Officials has said that this is a trial project and if implemented successfully, it will be extended to other government buildings in town. According to Chandran R, city corporation engineer, “The building is now operated using solar power, and tests have been conducted on the amount of consumption and voltage fluctuations from the past one week. Except for the air-conditioners in the building, everything else would be functioning with solar power.”
