Wednesday, October 09, 2013: After showcasing its flexible OLED display, which is also the world’s largest OLED screen, LG has now announced that LG Chem, the company’s battery manufacturing unit, will be producing curved batteries now. Presumably, the batteries will power LG’s expected curved display smartphones. According to the report, the company own the ‘Stack and Folding’ patent, which is what this technology is based on.
LG has reportedly completed the development of the batteries and it seems that these devices will be working very well, especially with wearable devices like glasses and smartwatches. Further, LG also let out information about flexible cable batteries, which the company plans to produce in big numbers in the future. These batteries can be used to power various wearable devices. They can apparently be bent, tied etc. without any harm.
Further, reports suggest that the company has said that these new batteries won’t heat up because of extended use and are even waterproof. Also, LG Chem is apparently planning to become the top battery maker in the world.
LG has already showcased one advancement in battery technology through its stepped battery in the LG G2. In this, there are two batteries stacked on top of each other, because of which the overall battery life of the LG G2 is higher.
