Saturday, September 21, 2013: The State of West Bengal is supposed to provide grid connected land for Renewable Energy. This information was received at the 4th Energy Conclave organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Eastern Region in Kolkata. “West Bengal will continue enjoy energy and have assured fuel linkages for forthcoming expansion plans,” India Blooms quoted De, who is also the Convener of the 4th Energy Conclave.
This Conclave saw participation of all stakeholders including policymakers, key energy professionals, representatives from generation, transmission and distribution sectors, to independent power producers, energy consultants/auditors, energy equipment manufacturers along with users. De pointed out that West Bengal’s achievements in the previous ten years and also mentioned that it can act as a role model for other states in India as well.
“We made a conscious departure from ultra-mega power projects and increased efficiency by having more discoms. This has increased efficiency in fluctuation and enhanced flexibility. We have absolutely no worry in the next 8-10 years,” De asserted at the Inaugural Session of the Energy Conclave, a flagship annual CII initiative.
Moreover, he informed that Rajarhat New Town is all set to become a Solar City. For this purpose, plans and modalities are being worked out, besides this, the government has also selected few places to experiment such a model.
