Thursday, September 19, 2013: Sterlite Grid, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sterlite Technologies has commissioned a 23km 400kV double-circuit quad transmission line that connects Purnia and Bihar Sharif district substations in Bihar. The cost of the project is around rs 5 billion (Rs 500 crore). It has been awarded on the basis of build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM).
The project will contribute annuity revenue to Sterlite Grid for a period of 25 years. The firm, Sterlite Grid informed that it was chosen to build India’s first ultra mega transmission project with two 400kV transmission lines under the tariff-based competitive bidding.
The line serves the purpose of providing critical connectivity for transfer of power from hydro power plants in the North Eastern region. Moreover, it is supposed to bring on line transmission capacity capable enough to power more than one million homes in northeast Bihar and northern India.
Power System Operation Corporation, the national power grid operator has identified the line as the highest priority. Sterlite Grid has done the installation of one transmission line in the East North Interconnection Transmission Project with the completion of commissioning of the Purnia-Bihar Sharif transmission line.
While ENICL will connect state of Assam with West Bengal and Bihar. It involves investment to the tune of around Rs 10 billion (Rs 1,000 crore), apart from this, the company has Rs 35 billion (Rs 3,500 crore) of projects in progress.
